100+ Sites to Submit Your Startup (High Quality, High DA, Low Spam Score)

Startups are hard. There are so many great founders with great business ideas yet only a few of them manage to execute their ideas, build an amazing team, create early traction and get their startup off the ground.

After working with several startups, it is easy to see one common trend; most startups spend too much time on building a product/service/software and not enough time on marketing. However, having a marketing strategy and creating early traction is crucial for startups.

If you don’t believe me, ask Marc Andreessen;

“The number one reason that we pass on entrepreneurs we’d otherwise like to back is they’re focusing on product to the exclusion of everything else. Many entrepreneurs who built great products simply don’t have a good distribution strategy. Even worse is when they insist that they don’t need one, or call [their] no distribution strategy a “viral marketing strategy.” – Marc Andreessen

Building an awesome startup is not enough. You should let people know how awesome it is. Getting seen by one more journalist/blogger or one more investor can make all the difference in the world for your startup.

That is why I have gathered a big list of 100+ places that you can submit your startup for both SEO value and gaining more visibility in your space, to get the ball rolling.

 

Aren’t directories bad for SEO?

It depends.

Most of the sites on my list are not directories but there are still a few directories. We were very careful about selecting those.

I and my VA spent long hours to create this list. My VA went through thousands of sites and filtered the spammy or worthless sites (low DA, not updated recently, high spam score) and I have double checked everything to make sure we only include the sites/directories that are;

• High Domain-authority
• Low spam score
• Updated frequently (we filtered all sites that have not been updated during the last 6 months)
• Low Alexa score (I know that Alexa is not a good measure but if a website is not even ranked on Alexa, it is a sign that it doesn’t get any traffic)

 

The problem with statements like “directory link building is dead!” is that directory submission is not. There are plenty of places your business/organization should be listed on the web, and lots of them give good links, too. e.g. in the startup world

Submitting to places *just* to get SEO-boosting links, seeking out “dofollow” directories, etc. — yeah, that’s pretty pointless & could be harmful. But submission to useful web resources that list sites like yours — still valuable. Subtle, but important distinction. Rand Fishkin
